Upper Extremity and Hand Dysfunction
Manual Physical Therapy
Specialized care by certified hand therapist for shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist pain at RPI Therapy.
Do you have trouble reaching into cabinets? Holding a pen? Working at the computer? Whatever the pain or injury is stopping you from, it may be time to come see our highly skilled occupational therapists.
They specialize in treating shoulders, elbows, hands and wrists, so you will know you are in the best hands.
Daily life requires use of your upper limbs daily to perform tasks and activities. We sometimes don’t know how important it is until we can’t perform an activity. RPI is now offering hand therapy, which includes specialized care of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist and hand. Our occupational therapists can help heal injuries to the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders that are affected by:
- Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
- Fractures
- Post-operative rehabilitation
- Hypermobility and dislocations
- Carpal tunnel and other nerve injuries
- Work and sports related injuries
They will work with you to help improve the current dysfunction. Occupational therapists specialize in:
- Strengthening the upper limb due to impairment
- Improving passive and active range of motion
- Improving fine motor skills, coordination, and dexterity
- Improving static and dynamic balance to facilitate independence with activities of daily living
- Molding custom-made splints to relieve and protect painful joints
Upper limb dysfunction takes time to heal and each heals differently. Our occupational therapists take the time to listen to the tasks that are difficult for you and come up with a customized program specific to you and the problem. At the start of the evaluation, the occupational therapist will perform a series of tests to diagnose the root of the issue and then they will come up with a plan based on your pain and issues found in the evaluation.
